The second exhibition we had the pleasure to visit as a class was the “Fizzers 10 Years of Caricature” open at Glasgow’s People’s Palace. Even though this was not a photographic exhibition, we still had an amazing time looking at all of the different works.
The name of the exhibition “Fizzers” is actually Glaswegian slang for face, which is an appropriate title as we came across over 120 celebrities and Scottish icons — drawn in a caricature style by five different artists, all of whom are a part of the Scottish Cartoon Art Studio.
A caricature, for those who don’t know, is an exaggerated image of a person and their features. The exhibition was on display from the 27th of May 2016 to the 26th of March 2017.
The caricatures were split into different categories; such as Sport, Music, VIP’s, Entertainment and Glasgow Faces. Even if you didn’t know all of the people drawn in the exhibition, with the number shown there was bound to be someone you knew. Some of these included the likes of Lady Gaga, Rihanna, Barack Obama, David Beckham and JK Rowling. Doctor Who fans like myself could find enjoyment in seeing 12 different time lord’s, all drawn in different styles.
One thing that can be said about the exhibition is that kids would love the experience. They took extra care in adding a station where you could draw your own caricature’s, and an area where you could play the popular game “Guess Who”, only with the drawings from the exhibition. Even for adults, the bright colours of the caricatures brought the exhibition to life, making it fun for everyone.

Be sure to follow the blog to receive notifications on when we post, as the next one will be of the last exhibition we visited. Let us know in the comments if you had the chance to visit before it was closed!
